Fifth wheels offer superior towing stability, more living space, and typically a bi-level bedroom suite — but at a higher price point and requiring a heavier-duty truck.
For families with a half-ton truck, travel trailers are often the better value. For full-timers or those with a 3/4-ton or 1-ton truck, fifth wheels offer an unmatched living experience.
Buying
RV loan rates currently range from approximately **6.49% – 13%+ APR** depending on your credit score, loan term, and down payment. Most buyers with good credit (700+) qualify for rates in the 7% – 9% range.
Loan terms range from 60 months (5 years) to 240 months (20 years). A longer term lowers your monthly payment but increases total interest paid.
Example: A $60,000 RV financed at 8% for 180 months = approx. **$574/month**.

Trade-In
Your truck's **tow rating** is the maximum Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) it can safely pull. You can find this on the sticker inside your driver's door jamb or in your owner's manual.
**General guidelines:**
- Half-ton trucks (F-150, RAM 1500, Silverado 1500): up to ~8,500 – 10,000 lbs GVWR
- 3/4-ton trucks (F-250, RAM 2500, Silverado 2500): up to ~16,000 – 18,000 lbs GVWR
- 1-ton trucks (F-350, RAM 3500, Silverado 3500): up to ~20,000 – 25,000 lbs GVWR
**Important:** Always match to GVWR (not dry weight) and account for your payload (passengers, gear, water, etc.).
